Is it rude or insulting to ask my new boyfriend to mind his English grammar and spelling?

This is obviously a major problem for you and as you say, a turn off but to correct him would be a bad idea. From the sound of it, there's a lot to be corrected so your e-mails would turn into lessons from a teacher to a pupil.
