What are some influences of bribery on the society?

Our nation's trillion dollar deficit might have something to do with how politicians bribe each other with "incentives" (pork barrel funds) that cost the tax payers more money than the original proposition in order to win a vote. So the effects on society of this happening repeatedly is a large public debt which decreases the dollar value. Things become more expensive.
